Postpartum Doula Services

The job of a postpartum doula is to provide informed emotional and infant care for families. I am DONA trained, which is an international foundation. Availability of resources and care varies widely across the globe, so I separate my Doula packages from Additional support to reduce pollution or confusion of what a doula’s responsibility is, universally.
I understand that in the South Suburbs of Chicago, and in this country, mothers and families have additional very real needs. The additional services I offer are listed on the Add-Ons page.

Please do not just fill a cart and send me money. This list of services is a baseline for discussion. We should meet in person before agreeing to anything, and I must be able to reserve your “due date” month on my calendar.

I will not overbook or overlap clients as I need to focus on each family’s care.

and available via text in between

You’ve got a good support team and you feel pretty confident, but you’d like a little help getting settled when you get home with your new family member(s).

Week 1: Two 4-hour visits
Week 2: Two 3-hour visits

First visit should occur within the first 48 hours of arriving home, or of baby’s birth, if born at home.

  • Informed and evidence based newborn care advice
  • Nursing and feeding support
  • Assistance navigating the support role of other caregivers in the home, if there are any
  • Guidance and time for self-care
  • Light household tasks
  • In the case of cesarean, possibly carrying or moving items for birthing parents
  • Facilitating time with older children, or fostering safe interactions with new baby, if you have older children
  • Access to my resources library
  • Photos, if you’d like them

Counseling other family members in safe and productive ways to add to their new family dynamic looks different for non-birthing parents, for extended family, and for siblings or littles in the home. Each person (and pet) plays a crucial role in welcoming a baby home.

Surprises outside of our control can sometimes happen in the world of babies. If you decide you need to add on support, please look at add-on days and discuss with me. If I’m available, I will not leave you hanging. If I am not, I will help you find help.

Lactation and pumping support, and overnight support, for your first two weeks back at work.
It can be hard to adjust your mindset, your schedule, your absence from baby, a possible increase in pumping and parts cleaning, the possible new process of pumping and storing milk for childcare. I would love to support you as you transition back into your new normal. What this looks like:
Week 1: One 3-hour visit, and one 6-hour mini overnight
Week 2: One 2-hour visit, and one 6-hour mini overnight

Home without Baby

$0

9 hours of support and resources over two weeks

If your baby does not come home with you, a birthing parent still needs to recover and heal. While I never want to see this for anyone, I also never want anyone to be alone.

I’m so sorry that you’re even having to read through this section.

I do not charge for this service.

Eager friends and family may not know how to help or respond, and you may feel at a loss for what to do next.

If you have any cultural or religious practices you’d like to incorporate or would like help with, let me know. I want to honor you and the soul of your baby as I can.

Your body will not understand right away that your baby did not come home – breasts will swell, women will bleed, incisions will need care, and birthing parents will still need rest.
I can also help you access resources for your circumstances.

What this looks like:
Week 1: Two 3-hour visits
Week 2: One 3-hour visit
